Cultivate Aberdeen is a community initiative that aims to provide food-growing and sustainable practice education and facilities to local areas across Aberdeen; designed, developed, and sustained by young people and their communities.
We recognise the importance of food and sustainability education and we want to empower young people and their families to think differently about food; to not only be able to grow their own but to also have the confidence to cook healthy, hearty meals using the fruits of their labour grown right here in the Granite City.
Working with partners such as Community Food Initiatives North East (CFINE) and Aberdeen’s Sustainable Cities Foot Partnership (SCFPA) we aim help families gain the confidence to cook using the fruit and vegetables which will be grown in our community gardens and encouraged to be grown in family gardens and window planters. These organisations are driving positive food change that links directly with our mission statement to make healthy and sustainable food a defining characteristic of the City.
Our mission is to have several gardens which are designed and maintained by our Green-Thumbed Growers – a diverse group of volunteers united by their passion for growing.
There are many opporunities for you to be a part of Cultivate, whether that be to join our board and steer our strategy or becoming a Green-Thumbed- Grower and help spread the benefits of community gardens across the Granite City.
Little or large your support and contributions will enable us to meet our goals and improve sustainability education and facilities within Aberdeen.
